Simple hack shows WHO is looking at your website.

Wouldn’t it be awesome to know the identity of the individual looking at your website AND what company they are with? Well this simple little LinkedIn hack can help provide that insight.

Essentially we are going to leverage the analytics data LinkedIn provides about individuals browsing individual public profiles and the fact that most people stay logged in to their social media accounts.

The solution goes back to techniques used in the past to track email opens. Tracking email opens was done by hiding a tiny 1 pixel graphic that was tracked. What we are going to do now is embed your LinkedIn public profile within a tiny 1 pixel sized frame hidden at the bottom of every page on your website. When individuals view the pages on your website, LinkedIn also thinks they viewed your profile. If that individual had logged in to LinkedIn recently, they will be recorded on your ‘Who’s viewed your profile’ page.

Here is the trick. Just put this code in the footer of every page on your website.
<iframe src=”LINK TO YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE” height=”1″ width=”1″ frameBorder=”0″></iframe>

There are some obvious drawbacks to this little hack:

  • Your LInkedIn Profile views and website views will now be combined.
  • LinkedIn has some users who are set to anonymous.
  • LinkedIn only provides Job title or Company for some. Even this information can be valuable.
  • Being a premium member will make this more effective.
